However, at some point, in the conversation, and I’m not entirely sure where, she asked if I were interested. Well I wasn’t sure. I hadn’t picked up a brush since I was at school, and that was a long, long, yes long time ago.Well long story short, she went to Michaels, bought her brushes and paints, however, also bought a set of acrylics and some brushes and canvas boards, and mailed them off to me. Well very quickly I realised I loved to paint. dzaet was by now into her third or forth piece and I? Well I was happily experimenting and just getting to grips with my lack of skills.Well since those days, I have continued to paint, and post them here and on a few other places. dzaet continued to encourage me and I even found one of my paintings chosen to appear on Ovation TV’s MY ART series. However, deep down, I felt like a fraud. Though I’ve had many kind words spoken, I never felt like I quite belonged in those art circles. Then around March this year, after a frustrating week of trying to load work up to the various places, I had one of ‘THOSE’ moments and close all of my various art accounts.Now I justified this to myself by saying it wasn’t worth the hassle; but as I sit here now, I realise that wasn’t the case.March passed and I still continued to paint and enjoy it, and then, in August this year I headed back to the US to visit dzaet and her family. There was work to be done on the website, and lots to discuss, and a good excuse to turn the rest of the visit into a tax deductible vacation. Hahah! However, I’d talked about taking a few art classes but had been unable to find anything suitable here in the UK. Then dzaet came up with the idea of taking a class from Terry Brunner. I began this painting as a tribute to the work and selfless acts these dog have given. I have struggled quite considerably because I have felt that I could not do their service justice. Yet, in the end, to give up would be an even greater disservice to these wonderful animals. Therefore, for all of the German Shepherds of this world. And then as we look closer, we see the black and the white is not perfect, just as life is imperfect.I had considered taping off each section to capture that perfect edge, yet as I sat there, I realised that, as with life, there are no perfect straight edges.
