Ovation TV Launches Arts Education Podcast Series

Ovation TV's Arts Education online community has launched a new Arts Ed Podcast series to share inspiring ideas and diverse perspectives on teaching and learning through the arts. The series is moderated by Arts education expert Dr. Amy Shimshon-Santo.

In honor of Arts Advocacy Day, the May podcast focuses on arts education and public policy as seen through the lens of a State Arts Council activist.

      Special Guest: Malissa Feruzzi-Shriver

Malissa Feruzzi-Shriver is a fine artist and painter. She is also the Chairperson of the California Arts Council's Board of Directors. In this personal interview, she demystifies arts education policy from the perspective of a state agency. Malissa addresses the following issues: 1) Arts Education as a social equity issue, 2) how state and federal partnerships with the National Endowment for the Arts leverage resources for communities, 3) arts integration in STEM curriculum, and 4) how California is funding arts education through their Million License Plate Campaign. She also shares her personal story about how her life changed from being a professional painter to a full time arts advocate.

      Coming Soon

Inspired by the recent Poetry month, the June Arts Ed podcast features Glenis Redmond, Kennedy Center Teaching Artist, and self-declared “Front Line Artist.”

It will be interesting to see the evolution of digitally enhanced photos and their integration into art shows and the art community in general. I suspect that some photographers and some in the art community will never embrace it and some will adapt and use it/accept it in varying degrees. I've only exhibited my photos in two shows and in both I exhibited heavily manipulated pieces. In both I sold photos too. I also exhibited black and white unenhanced shots as well.

I work in with the new standard for Animation and Modeling with a software called Maxon Cinema 3D (it has been established lately as surpassing even Maya in it's capabilities. I believe that iClone models are compatible with C4D with the integration of a simple conversion protocol plug in.

      What is it you are looking to do? I am new at this, but have been creating some pretty cool models (from the inception to completion). Here are a couple of examples of my newest work;

A lone Great Egret tries to hold his own versus a group of Turkey Vultures, mindful of the nearby egret roost & rookery. The rookery was buzzing with antics and noise as the hens tried to position themselves against a possible threat. Of course, only the fallen would need worry about the vultures. I was admiring the moss dripping from the live trees when I spotted this arrangement, and thought the outnumbered egret would make an interesting photo. Taken at Somerville Lake in south Texas, near Brenham.

      'Self - Centered'

      the renaissance series

the development of art and architecture through social and political agenda sparked the "rebirth" of the individual.  the renaissance often referred to of the fourteenth century was a reactionary force, giving artists and patrons full integration of the arts into the social fabric of the city.  the method of learning entitled the individual and their capabilities to create, think and design a new way of life.  the concurrent growth of art and architecture was evident by the technical advances  ( identifying the perspective as a formal artistic technique ) and building developments of new monuments.

self - centered is a collection of work or 'studies' directed at the topology of the "rebirth."  the human figures are abstracted as building constructs as well as geometric fields of individual elements.  much like architecture, each piece in the collection has a spatial condition to which the subjects are designed and painted for.  the human figures are part of the narrative documenting this shift from the collective toward the individual.

That's an interesting concept! I have used music and slideshows to present my photos, but I think you are talking about the actual integration of a record player or something as a part of your art?

Speaking of music...I hope we see more musicians sign up to Ovation and post their music/videos! It's definitely art and something I think would enhance the Ovation experience.

In 1947, Jackie Robinson was the first African American allowed to play in the Major Leagues.
Brooklyn Dodgers owner Branch Rickey chose Jackie Robinson for his abilities as a ballplayer and personal integrity. Well, the type of person I would date... I married. She has curly dark brown hair and eyes, and has a MENSA level IQ. She specializes in Global integration of EDI Systems and is NOT artistic in the slightest. However, she loves art, and her art form is her passion for cooking, and being the greatest wife and mother I've ever met!

I was into the punk scene in the 1970's, I met the Talking Heads in '77 and the Ramones in 78 and many L.A> punk groups in the later 70;s thru pre mtv era early 80's. the scene was cool unless and until non insider dummies came around trying to make trouble. Then it got too violent fast.

Violence and stupidity and delight in the murder of innocents certainly predate that era and are not confined to those outside our borders.
