An old mural in San Diego that was weather damaged to the point where there were only a few specks of paint left and some faint outlines here and there.  I added some texture and design elements then re-colored the image.

I am currently working on a series of contemporary photographic landscapes I call “area photography”.

The subject matter I gravitate toward is unspectacular, and the images are a mischievous reaction  to “epic” photography. There is a tension between meaning  and meaninglessness that is expressed in this work.

This series is an exploration of the ephemeral, the peripheral.

Through the juxtaposition of spatial elements, use of color and light, and choice of subject, a sort of "discovered" narrative emerges, highlighting incompleteness as a condition of everyday life.

In  area  photography  there  is  no  “decisive  moment”: what  is  captured  is  a  comma  rather  than  an  exclamation  point.  Others  may  see  fit  to  “de-ordinarize” their  imagery , engineering  it  to  produce  a  fantastical  effect.   I  reject  this  convention in my work.

There is both a sense of idealism and anxiety (albeit a humorous one), and it is my hope that both the beautiful and the absurd can coexist in this work.

Lets have a bit of criteria

There are numerous approaches or "compositional techniques" to achieving a sense of unity within an artwork, depending on the goals of the artist. For example, a work of art is said to be aesthetically pleasing to the eye if the elements within the work are arranged in a balanced compositional way. 4 months ago

A few things that helped me develop my style and have helped many of my students improve.

Do the same thing I suggested at the top of this subject with the works of master. Pick out some pictures you really like. First, just view them for 4-5 minutes. Next, study them, one at a time, to discover what you like about them and why. Look at the light, the pieces in the picture, hoe one part brings out another and sets up meaning.

In the studio space that is now showing my digital photo exhibit I will be teaching a "Didgeridoo Workshop"  Friday November 16th the cost is $25.00 for the two hour class.  the time is 7:00PM to 9:00PM.    The place is "The Studio @3 Elements"  34-36 Bell Blvd. Bayside Queens New York 11361.   You get to keep your practice didgeridoo. It would be nice if you called ahead so I have time to make enough didgeridoos.  You can send me a message here at Ovation or email didgeridoomojo@verizon.net.  What I really would like is for anyone who can make it to the studio that night to try to do so.  Not for the workshop but so we can meet and you can see the place.  The Studio @ 3 Elements wants to attract all of the arts.  Visual, musical, theatrical any kind of performance or class instruction is welcome.  This can be a great outlet for your art or passion.  I am trying to make connections between Bayside, Woodside, Long Island City and where ever you are so that we all support each other.  The Studio @ 3 Elements wants to become an all encompassing arts center.  Its location makes that a difficult task but not impossible.    So,  if you are having a show in the New York City area you can send me any flyers or printed announcements that we will put out for anyone to see and in this way we may help to broaden your audience and help grow a web of real connection.  They also have yoga, meditation, tai chi classes and events of that nature held in this space.

I think everyone has a really firm grasp on the obvious - it's bad to mark on other peoples' work. No one is condoning anything. Making the connection Anna has to the iconoclastic elements in art is a legitimate and astute observation. No one is saying it's always laudable and no one has said marking other people's work is a rewardable action. What Anna has pointed out is a broader historical sensibility related to these actions.

    • Description:

Last night was the reception to my first digital photo show held at The Studio @ 3 Elements in Bayside NY. Check out the facebook page.   When I say the place broke out in good vibes I literally mean good vibes.  We had guitars,  drums, didgeridoos, singers a viola player and three poets.  all this wrapped around my art work.   Some of the performers are members of a gypsy punk rock band called "Bad Buka"  tonight they are playing at "Spike Hill" in Williamsburg Brooklyn.  Catch their videos   wildly good music.    We also announced my Didgeridoo workshop that will be held at the studio Friday November  16th... two hours of didge info and instructions and you get to keep your practice didgeridoo all for $25.00.  I make the didgeridoos out of PVC plastic pipes with beeswax as the mouthpiece.   Good for very beginner practice but not highly recommended if you don't like the idea of blowing into plumbing supply's for the rest of you musical life.   The art show will be up for six weeks.   Goodbye for now and to all my east coast neighbors hold on tight here comes Sandy.
