A Study for a Client... The Lager one will reflect some more Earth tones I think... Funny how we were just talking about horse paintings...

11x14" acrylic on gallery-wrapped canvas. Copyright 2009, Lana Gramlich. Although I abhor painting things I can see out my window (so to speak,) the local market seems unwilling to accept much else. My husband advised against using my original title for this; "Stereotypical Louisiana Claptrap #1."
Salvador Dali is one of my all time favorite artist. His outrageous approach to life and people was unnique. He also spent a lot of time painting sagging "watches." I guess, he was really attempting to capture eternity in a work or maybe in his own life.
In this piece, I warped a couple of my pocket watches and added his face to one of them. I was aiming to trap him in his own plane of thought, the sagging pocket watch, while overlooking into his incredibly complex world.
Do you know who Ida Dalser is and what fate she suffered?
I've been working on a new art concept I call "Cognizant Surrealism". Call it a "movement" if you will... because I hope other's will join me in this endeavor. This piece and my painting in progress, "Prejudice" as well as several other of my pieces DO NOT follow traditional "Surrealist" ideals in that the images are not "subconcious" thoughts or dream state ramblings, but compositional rational motif's which are "narrative" by design and convey various messages. I hope you enjoy.

Pretty self explanatory...
12x24" acrylic on gallery-wrapped canvas, inspired by a dream from years ago. Unseen are the effects of irridescent paint in the light rays, in the nebula, on the edge of the planet & highlighting areas where the light hits the mermaids. Metallic gold paint in the nebula and the comet produce similar effects & irridescent paint & gloss varnish are also used to create some of the stars. Seen "live," this painting changes subtly as you move around it. Copyright 2009, Lana Gramlich.
I'm not 100% sure I'm finished with this. We shall see...
