Sometimes life isn't as beautiful, "shiny," or even as perfect as depicted by some of the more traditional old masters - for example, Michelangelo (upper right). A deeper insight reveals an area of transparency (lower left), where there is more to life than merely the classical outer facade (center woman's face). Although the three figures (lower left) certainly reference the three graces in both classical style and meaning, they represent the same facade: all the pains, worries, and depression, are masked by seemingly beautiful bodies. As with art and art history, there has been tremendous progress throughout the centuries, as artists began moving away from pure representation and classicism and gradually began approaching expressionism, impressionism, cubism, and futurism. Art began to take more meaning and convey deeper emotion, as the metaphoric "curtain" of classicism was slowly but surely pulled aside (upper right - figure pulling on curtain).
So, while classical representation is nice and beautiful - often appreciated the most by common people and thought to be "good art," it definitely does not define art or represent what art should be. Art shouldn't just depict exactly what you see and look exactly alike when compared to the "real thing," but should depict really what YOU see and how YOU see it. Ultimately, "Good" art - in my opinion - can actually be summed up in one word.
Timeless.

Here is a sketch I did a few years back of nude model, Danni Ashe. She was real popular on the internet a few years back. I hope she's popular with all of you too! Damn! Almost 1500 views?! WOW! Thanks a lot everyone! I really appreciate it!
Bruce Lehto painted this using as reference material a photo I took while on a shoot for Kid Rock. His pose is reminiscent of the poses typically used by early American portraitists when painting a president or other person of high social or political rank.

Imagine if you were in a concert hall, a rock band studio, or just listening to music on the radio. What would you hear? High sopranos, low basses, or perfectly tuned tenors? What would you feel? Happiness, anger, depression, or sadness? What would it be like? Want to find out?
This piece represents the vast array of deep feelings and old memories that can be brought to mind by simply listening to a familiar song. Different thoughts arise, clash in confusion, but soon sort out and sink deeper into your heart. Spontaneous feelings come and go, while other thoughts spin and circulate around your mind. All in the length of, possibly 3 minutes or 4 minutes, a song. Who knew?
Musical Expression.
Imagine that.
