  • The Sacrifice of Isaac The Sacrifice of Isaac

    • From: jwiener
    • Description:

This is one of my largest acrylic paintings (80" x 38", wood panel) and focused on my favorite topic of the Middle East and the clash of religions. The scene is a recreation of the story of Abraham and his attempt to sacrifice his son Isaac. In this scene however, Abraham is teaching Isaac the ways of men, and peforming a ritualistic act on his son as he prepares him for a life of battle. In the background, we can see the ancient city of Jerusalem as the flames of war engulf the sky. The Al Aksa mosque that currently sits atop of the temple mount is demolished and in flames.

This painting was only the preface for the animation that I created from this image. In the animation, which is several minutes long, the child speaks a common prayer during this ritual that can be found in the language of most religions.

People were suggesting that Craig not use the swastika in his work. Over his protests and explanations, he was basically called an opportunist and attention seeker.
