LOL.......I could strap a square sponge to my dog's back side when she scratches her behind on the floor and sit her on a canvas....ha.
It woul be cool to get a canvas and some paint and go for it some day. I noticed a link on that page where you can learn to paint in the impressionist style too...that would be fun!
I tried painting in schoool.....I was not very good.

Digital impressionist paintings of New Zealand scenes:

      Digital print 2400 x 1800 pixels

On the West  Coast of the South Island it rains often. This painting is from a photograph I snapped riding the scenic train from Christchurch on the East Coast through the mountains to Greymouth on the West Coast. It seemed like a typical view of NZ farmland to me.

Studio assignment for my Art History class.  We got to choose our own inspiration and create an original piece based on whatever medium we choose.

      “Bird on a Tree”

      8"x10" Canvas Board; Acrylic

Honestly, I was nervous about trying this type of painting so I kept it simple and used an“8 X 10” canvas board. I tried to stick to the basic colors used by the Impressionists as well as similar brushes. Impressionism often called for a quick stroke due to the changing light. Many Impressionists believed in covering the canvas as quickly as possible, adding to the ferocity of their brush strokes. To stick to the idea of this philosophy I tried to cover my canvas quickly with long and short strokes often layering multiple colors for that implied effect.

The heat of Summer was very prevalent over the last few days, getting up to 105 degrees at times. The colors I viewed for the sky really gave me the feeling of that heat hanging in the air, which can be seen some in the photographic image. The robin with the worm was an added bonus. The bird showed up as I was looking for a subject to focus on that day. It seemed to know its was part of my muse and did not move for the longest time even after I took the photo. Even though the bird was gone I still went back to that tree to study it and its colors more.

To coincide with the time period we are studying this week, I decided to bring photography into play as well. The beginning of photography gave artists the opportunity to capture the image and allow for some studio work. So I took that philosophy to mind and captured an image of my subject so I can continue working under better conditions because of the heat. I used a close-cropping technique similar to Julia Margaret Cameron to show my visual focus for my painting. The photo was a reminder for my mind of the light and colors I was seeing. I would have liked to have stayed outdoors and complete this assignment. This would have gave me a chance to see the colors even better in different values of light and in its natural setting. The time spent studying and focusing really helped to still allowed me to attempt creating an image that has the feel for the colors in the Impressionistic style.

“Bird on a Tree” is my first attempt at an intended Impressionist painting. The entire process has inspired me to try some larger outdoor paintings in this style. This may not be the strongest of compositions but it does leave behind influence to attempt another.

In this design I wanted to capture the literal otherworldliness of both the mood and lyrics of the song, "Only if for the Night". The center figure of a classic beauty is purposely juxtaposed against an impressionist sky and surreal crescent moon only hinting...is this the ghost or is this Florence?

In my reading about western art, one of the ideas I come across a lot is how art changes as a push against the status quo. Especially when you get to the Impressionist, Modern, PostModern and so on periods.

Art was entrenched in what everyone thought it should be, or in some sort of unnamed rules. An artist or group of artists decided they didn't like this and broke away, started something new.

I would submit that compared to a lot of the other art histories and timelines from different a
