I started thinking about life (and art which is inseperable from it) in terms of the Potential and the Manifest. Not as opposites in a binary framework but as non-deterministic dynamic forces that only exist in relation to each other. I consider our human plight as biased and favoring a metaphysics of presence, which is why what is visible is always deemed more believable than what is not. However everything occurs in-between those hypothetical poles in the passage from one to the other

      Part XI

The first set at the Cozy Corner was over with the band The Vargas Sound stretching out on a twenty minute break.  Miguel Aviles was with a sweat soaked exterior calmly walking toward the bar for a whiskey.  At the bar waiting to do harm to him were Laurie Pierce, Frank Abigal, a new arrival, Felipe Sanchez, and Oscar Reno, each person was like a runner at the starting line, on edge and ready to attack.

However at the moment Miguel arrived at the bar with an arm up and motioning with his hand for the bartender, one Alicia Hammel, a tall and attractive blond with a strong smile that masked a stern demeanor, he, Miguel suddenly collapsed to the floor.

The good, unknowing patrons at the Corner responded with shock and concern, while the knowing members looked on with dismay and disappointment, he having for the moment spoiled their plans.  The would be attackers watched and waited for a word on his condition, hoping still to get a shot at Miguel, but unfortunately they would not, because right there on the floor of the Cozy Corner Miguel Aviles died of a massive heart attack.  And so a hedonist extreme was dead, having lived and done what he wanted, got what he deserved.

Carmen Aviles buried her husband Miguel without fanfare or pompous hypocrisy.  Present at the funeral, besides herself, was the band Vargas Sound, and the surprised addition Julio Zambrano and his wife Arlene Diaz, both feeling great pity for the talent, but destructive artist that was Miguel Aviles.

Oscar Reno, perhaps Miguel’s best friend in life, was a no show, as was his wife Tina, who was too ashamed to even consider the idea of attending Miguel’s funeral.  Laurie Pierce however did show up later and spit on his grave.  She also, being a lady, did bring a sample of waste in a vial.

She poured her sentiment on the fresh grave and it was closure, and she felt fine.  Frank Abigal didn’t show and didn’t do well after Miguel was gone.  He still loved and missed his wife Teresa desperately and with Miguel not available to focus his hate on he had only himself left to make the final payment.  Frank then with a used Chevy coup and just off the BrooklynBridge, aimed at a big fat utility pole. He fueled by booze, got that guy Frank one time good and done with: crashing into the pole, the vehicle exploding, and careening down an embankment, to his flaming fiery end.

Oscar Reno’s end wasn’t so bold, and or dramatic, he just sat and read the daily newspaper, drank coffee slowly, oh so slowly, the bright light of: art history, music, and fine food, that was the center piece of his intellect dimmed to near nothing.  The nursing home or senior care spot that he found himself in three years later, heard little to no commentary form Oscar Reno.  Oscar went into the dark days of declining health with barely a whisper, until he was no more.

      The End

For me ‘appearances’ in anything only go so far.  I’ve met paragons of physical beauty; until they opened their mouth and revealed the content of who they are inside, and at that moment changed into something rather unattractive given the sum of the package.  One can be beautiful, but be an arse or simply a vacant ice cube of a person. :)

My point is I appreciate this thread and line of questioning but to speak with honesty, I find slight imperfection to be perfect jus

..looked through my photo series..and water puddle images captured my eye again.. took a series of puddles on faded green cement.. colors reflected the plant pots.. Ranch style home from Pauline and Jack, my long time friends' residence.. ..trees..and textures of/on ground.. I noticed the figure in dark in left.. eliminated some of sandy textures to bring figure into foreground..when i discovered the other one..right next to it..which captured my hole attention.. eliminated sand grains on right of..very tidous work, since all so small..and i work with i-photo only.. was lucky, that my mind alerted me, that i might have pushed i-photo to too much extreme and took screen shots..when i wanted to advance to next..it did..collapse.. too exhausted, to repeat my moves now again..mind recalls..but then.. i have the screen shots, which are originals.. herewith I upload..is worth for me..the 'pursue' into fantasy..this special realm... plus..it depicts in the way figures are 'moving'....also 'feel' of human condition/emotion.. ..so..give it a 'second' look...and your 'eyes' will see....... ..One day, when i  have printer again, etc..etc.i will make a large copy and paint in right..on the smooth path ..another hue.. the dark of left figure..raisin like..or use raspberry..hmm..many possibilities of hues..

when i read..how many things i still have in mind to do..i will have to live with clear mind and health for another hundred years... Cool

The Oak Island painting took approximately 1 year to complete.  The painting depicts my version of the legend of Oak Island aka “The Money Pit.”   Oak Island is located off the shores of Nova Scotia Canada and famed men such as Theodore Roosevelt, Errol Flynn and John Wayne had sunk a lot of their money into unearthing what great treasure may rest there.

The pit was first discovered in 1795 by a 16 year old man who had noticed unusual writing inscribed in an oak tree which stood before the pit.  The following day, he returned to the island with two friends armed with picks and shovels and began excavating the mysterious shaft.  As they began digging, they unearthed alternating layers of flagstone with unusual writing upon them, coconut palm mats and oak logs.  Obviously, the flagstone and coconut palms were not indigenous to the island.

Since the initial discovery, many people have invested time and money trying to unearth what great treasure may lie deep within the “Money Pit.”  Every time they dug deeper, the ocean water would fill the pit and some had perished in their attempts.  At one point, treasure hunters pour red paint into the pit and it spread out to the sear around the island, indicating that there were channels built into the shaft.  It’s considered an engineering marvel.  Today, Oak Island’s Money Pit still stands a mystery.  ***Please visit any online site regarding the full history of Oak Island***

After learning of this story in 2011, I decided to paint my own version of the Oak Island legend.  What struck me odd were the unusual inscriptions on the Oak Tree and the flag stones.  When I was in my early twenties, I taught myself to use the Viking Runes as an oracle.  This writing was not unfamiliar to me, but what struck me simultaneously, were two passages I remembered reading in the Holy Bible:

“And Joshua wrote these words in the book of the law of God.  And took a great stone, and set it up there under a mighty oak that was by the sanctuary of the Lord.”  And another passage from LUKE: “The Kingdom of God is inside you and all around you, not in a mansion of wood and stone.  SPLIT A PIECE OF WOOD AND GOD IS THERE, LIFT A STONE AND YOU WILL FIND GOD.”

Suddenly, an epiphany of a bright white light struck me between the eyes; Oak Island may not hold earthly treasures of gold and gems or a treasure map, but rather the bodies of Jesus Christ and Mary Magdalene.  I believe this would be one of mankind’s greatest finds!

With a mountain of inspiration, I began to plot my own adventure upon canvas and painted all that I’d discovered in my own life, coupling it with that which I had learned about Oak Island and they both fit together like two puzzle pieces comfortably resting side by side.

Within the painting are many names of musicians with one particular song from each artist representing the story of Oak Island.  I’ve included artists from around the world no matter what religious belief systems they behold.   I.e., “Yellow Submarine” by the Beatles – located in the submarine in the painting. “Stairway to Heaven” by Led Zeppelin - located in the DNA ladder in the center of the painting.

I’ve tried to express man’s journey into technology from the bottom of the “Money Pit” to today’s technology into space with Branson’s Virgin Galactic Space Shuttle.  I believe that quite possibly Leonardo Da Vinci’s study and engineering of water was incorporated into Oak Islands Pit as well as his development of the first submarine, which could have been used in creating the channels leading from the pit to the out edges of the island into the sea.

I’ve not excluded the Masons from the equation and they are also represented by the Masonic woman, which I painted without a face representing either a man/woman of no particular religious faith.  Coincidently, as I approached the conclusion of the painting one early morning before sunrise, a bee flew into my art studio and landed upon the Mayan Temple in the painting.  I grabbed a tissue and carefully set it free outside my door.  Five minutes later a wasp landed two inches from where the bee had landed.  I realized that the universes energy was trying to tell me something.  I proceeded to go online and read what the bee and wasp symbolize.  I giggled to myself in amazement; the bee was symbolic of the ancient Egyptians and a symbol of the Masons.  If the bee had landed anywhere else and the wasp hadn’t followed, I’d not have thought too much about these occurrences.

      Secret codes included in paiting

Like it or not, the sarcasm, the irony, the cynicism pointed out by Duchamp's work foreshadowed all those traits that became the prevailing sensibilities of the late 20th Century and on into this very day with no end in sight.
