Afraid of myself?

So I have ideas floating in my brain of photos I feel I need to make.  What's the problem you may ask?  Well, the problem is they are very dark and personal and reflect inner fears and conflicts.  I see the images already finished in my head and until I make them into a real photograph, they will not leave me alone.  They would not be for any reason other than to get them out of my head.  My fear is that releasing those feelings into a tangible thing will be too much for me.  Maybe that is exactly what I need to do in order to get past my fears and move forward.  I have held these feelings so deep for so long and letting them out and facing them is such a great fear.  To know that they would exist in a format that others could possibly see is terrifying to me.  And so I am afraid of my fears and I have ideas floating in my brain...

  • Thanks for all the comments and advice.  None of the pictures I am thinking of would be harmful, they just represent some deep feelings and emotions.  Haven't decided yet if I want to actually make them, but the feedback has been helpful, so thank you again.  Now I'm thinking more of a way to incorporate the original ideas into something more broad and not as personal perhaps. Something that others might be able to relate to. This might help me get the pictures out of my head and still keep my personal stuff to myself.

  • Facing one's fears is important, but doing this without professional help to guide you is not advisable.  Try to see a social worker or shrink to assist you.  Fears are hard to beat alone.   ellis.

  • Images are nothing more than personal perceptions.  It sounds like they are already in you head.  The only reasons to put them onto paper is to share those perceptions with others and/or preserve them for a time that your memory might fade.

  • Sometimes the only way to the other side is through what needs to be confronted.

Once you create your photographs, you can always destroy them.  I know many artists who tear up works they do not want resurfacing later, whether it's due to their dissatisfaction with the art or other more personal reasons.  You could then see your ideas in the physical universe yet no one else need view them.

Personally, I think allowing something to remain encysted works against a person, that it is better to bring "it" into the light of day and confront it.

Assuming these are photos that do no harm in the making of them, of course.
