My People, Out In The Cold, 1973

I was called away

with no way to refuse

my lover, I must go today

my heart aches

I walk in anguish

dusty boots of lies

spoken, promises broken

sweet and sour pain rises

to my weeping tongue

a strangled cry

slides from my angry mouth

breaks the awful silence

help

I see her in torn war broke cities

her perfume mingles with acrid burn

stench of gunpowder ,

men’s scared stink

where she cannot be

The sight of her

a wonderful mirage

of pink and pretty green

a disappearing horizon

stabbing my weeping heart

help

I am returned

broken

wound up like a toy top

spinning down anger dissipates

I know different terrors now

love has long since past

death is eagerly anticipated

death will make the anger stop

America where are you now

help

I feel it emotionally and physically, and hear your plea and your question.
