Description: This is the first large scale 18x24 ink project I had done and it took me about a year to complete, perhaps a good 200 hours went into it maybe more. Though it is far from perfect, I learned a lot from this piece. I wish I could do more like it, but my schedule is so busy and these take so long to do I can only maybe do 3 a year if I work at my current pace. Though this piece was very rewarding. It earned me a metal at the Texas VAS competition and scored a 58 out of 60. So I'm proud of this one. I am pretty upset that its a low quality picture, but until I can find a big scanner this is what I'll have to live with. Also, this piece is about the red scare and comic book censorship. The eyes surrounding the viewer represent paranoia. For those who don't know, comic books were under attack due to Dr. Fredric Wertham who thought it turned kids into unstable individuals and wrote a best selling book called 'Seduction of the Innocent '. It ruined lots of good hard working people and killed the horror comic genre, not to mention it turned all the super heroes into bright colored wearing pansies. Not only that but created the Comic Code Authority which had restrictions such as ?No comic magazine shall use the word horror or terror in its title?. CCA still exists but has a lack of influence.
