I like this photo not only because it reminds me of a wonderful afternoon but because it jumps with color. There is an absence of buyers which make the vendors seem almost forlorn. I like to imagine that the man is looking at the woman, thinking of her, yet she is looking away, as if to avoid his eye. At the center, we are at the tip of an arrow, the back of which ends in cash registers, the point of the market--to make money. We, however, love it for the atmosphere, the fresh and enticing produce, the smell of greenery, the sounds of people talking amongst themselves, of cash registers ringing, of paper bags crinkling as they are filled, and the shuffle of slow feet on the concrete floor as buyers pass by booths, assessing wares. This market, like so many farmers' markets, boils with life. In this instance we catch a quiet moment. Even so, all are poised for action once the opportunity presents itself.
