A few Saturdays ago, (1/31/09) I was able to catch a live performance and speak to the guys in the band Restavrant, a bluegrass meets punk duo from Texas now in Los Angeles. Capturing parts of their performance was not easy. The crowd was going crazy, hitting the support beams to the beat, moshing and singing along.
The show was at an artists' warehouse space downtown called Venus Warehouse. Several of the other bands I caught in the adjoining rooms were pretty talented as well but no one got the crowd moving like Restavrant.
Something the guys didn't mention when I spoke to them, their drum kit is made out of found materials, i.e. license plates, bicycle chain, wooden crate, car parts and more. Even Troy's guitar strap seems to be made from chain and plastic. Why? I don't know, but it sounds great.
The vocals and guitar echo old timey while the beats just say dance party. And based on my experience, not dancing at their show is physically impossible.
Here's a few words from the guys, Jonathan and Troy:
If you haven't seen it yet, check out their first music video Joe D, which lucky for us, Narnack Records uploaded to this site.
Click here to hear more of their music.
I can't wait to see them again. I'll wear better dancing shoes.
