    • Sherrie's School of Beauty

    • This was shot in an alley off Union Avenue in downtown Memphis, Tn.  The irony is obvious.  I was amused as well as intrigued to document the effort of an eternal optimist, obviously underfunded and against all odds, trying to make a "silk purse out of a sow's ear".

    • Hernando de Soto Bridge at sunset (Memphis, TN).
    • The Open Window

    • I wanted to creat mystery and stir the imagination with this image. Have fun with it. Historical note: This window is on the front of a house in the Glenwood section of Memphis, Tn. The stone was reused from a demolished building that was in downtown Memphis on Front Street near and overlooking the Mississippi River. The building was The Kossett Library and was replaced with a glass and aluminium box. Infomation about this monumental building can be found at www.memphisheritage.org.
    • Hazy Sunset in Memphis

    • Just another case of being in the right place at the right time. When the rice farmers in Arkansas burn the rice straw after harvest smoke fills the sky. Sometimes when the wind is still the air takes on this hazy brown tint causing the sunlight to be filtered into an unreal vision. I have only seen the maybe 5 times and only once when I was in a position to capture it. I was on the balcony of my former apartment on the 17th floor in Midtown Memphis.

    • Trying to Feel Better

    • I was extremely depressed the morning that I created this image. It started out as a record shot of a tire tread. As I continued to refine the image I was amazed to find that my mental state improved. With every success at each stage of development I felt better and better until, voila, I was returned to the land of the living. Hence, the title.
    • Trolly Tracks

    • The City of Memphis, Tn. over the past few years has revived the trolly system that had been discontinued many years earlier. I wanted to extract the feel of this revival so I did a series based on this idea. The trollies have been beautifully renovated and make wonderful travelogue photos but the enduring image that is emediatly recognized is the tracks. Since I am more interested in producing an expression, I chose this image to express my feelings about this historic romantic iconic recreation.

    • Restraint

    • This image depicts the dynamic tension that is happening pictorially as well as the effort to create the image. It involves the struggle that an artist endures as he or she determines what to include and what to exclude. The whole decision making process from conception to the signature is open for interpretation by the viewer.
    • RCAG #11

    • Tony, a frequent Blues musician on Beale Street, stands in front of the Pyramid in downtown Memphis.
    • Pull to Open

    • This image points out the complexity of minimalism. Why shoot a subject that appears to have no point or interest? Its the mystery, the what ifs, and the whys. Its simplicity is very deceptive. We imagine all the possibilities of what is going to happen when we pull the nob. Will it be hard or easy? Will I be suprised or frieghtened? Will it open at all? What is behind the panel? Will this change my life or will I just be disappointed? As far as the integrity of the photograph is concerned, the subject must be shot perfectly. Lighting, composition, cropping, and focus must be perfect so as not to distract from the point of the effort. What is that point? Its a gift to the viewer's imagination. Have fun.
