Memorial Park, dedicated in 1929 to the World War Soldiers. In this park is a bronze tablet to Wilbur Wright, the pioneer of Aeronautics, who was a native of Henry County. One of the park's most beautiful features is the Japanese Rock Garden. The park is made up of 362 acres of woods, many statues and monuments, Saddle Barn, the W.G. Smith Building, a rustic shelter house, and three log cabins. There are also 18 open picnic shelters and picnic tables scattered throughout the park. The park has two softball diamonds, three tennis courts, one basketball court, five volleyball courts, and several soccer fields, horseshoe pits, playgrounds, fishing, and nature trails. On Sundays park-goers can enjoy paddleboating around the main lake. My family has held their annual reunion there for 80 years. The annual foreworks display...the biggest in the county is held here every July 4th and many weddings and other special events are held here in the gazebo, large shelter house and many other of the quaint cabins and shelters.
