As a music lover, I used to scour the web for upcoming shows. I'd start with my favorite bands' websites for local tour dates. I would then proceed to MySpace and search by jumping around from band to band and browsing in my preferred genres. I rarely log in there anymore... ever.
I eventually moved on to sites like Eventful and Going for all sorts of event updates. There was so much information I felt like I began to drift further away from what I wanted to know. After reaching burnout status, I gave up. I waited for word of mouth or some strike of impulse that would lead me to some great concert.
Now - I have found the LA Music Blog. Here's why it works for me, there are plenty of articles if you like to read up on bands - big and small. There are upcoming concert dates but only for LA and mostly the medium size venues, no Staples Center listings but no dive bar-with-a-makeshift stage listings either. It feels curated, limited and yet has a range. I'm not overwhelmed and not left wanting more.
LA Music Blog gets straight to the point. The site design is clean and the calendar of events, easy to use and conveniently up-to-date. It's the site for the efficient live music lover.
I don't know if the owners/writers of LA Music Blog have any plans to expand. Maybe they shouldn't. So in the meantime, if you don't live in LA, you'll just have to move here to get the most out of this blog. (Just kidding)
