    • Damaged But Not Dead

    • This is my story: Please know that I am not trying to downplay anyone else’s situation- this is my personal experience and I consider myself VERY lucky-my story is mild compared to others I have witnessed and heard. I just want people to know that Emotional Abuse is REAL…and very damaging. During my early years, as a young bride, I was emotionally abused. Time kept passing but the damage never went away. The result was that by the time I became a young adult, my life was a big mess. I was waking up every morning feeling worthless and without any sense of direction. I was stuck in a dead-end job. I was making the wrong choices in my personal relationships. Then in 1999, my father died suddenly. He was only 59 years of age. With his passing, I was forced to make a critical decision. Was I going to continue living as I had been? Or was I going to take action and hold myself accountable for whatever happened? Then I realized how great it was that it was up to me to make that choice. I decided to begin the journey toward becoming who I believed was the real me. That’s when I became one of the lucky ones. I had become a survivor because I had chosen to heal myself. My father’s sudden death reminded me how short life really is. Because of that, I knew I should begin not only loving myself but also never being satisfied with anything less than doing what I loved. It was the most important turning point in my life. As a single parent, I became a student at the University of North Alabama. In 2006, I graduated Magna Cum Laude with a BFA in Graphic Design. I left there transformed. Not only did I have my degree, but I also had a new self confidence. How wonderful it felt to finally be able to accept myself and to realize I had fulfilled my dream of becoming a professional artist! Damaged But Not Dead (www.VLAntoine.com) allowed me an outlet and a way to heal a painful past. It’s based on emotional abuse, which I suffered over a span of 8 years (1984-1992). It’s a journey of my thought process during this time, the lengthy recovery, and the end result, which in my case, is a new self-acceptance and accomplishment of my life dream to become a professional artist. Although this experience was damaging to my self-esteem and distorted many of my views in life–through my faith in God–I was able to pick myself up and learn from it to make life better for myself. So, even if this exhibition touches the heart of only one person, whether victim or abuser, I will consider it a success.

Finally Dan loses himself in the boisterous holy town of Sri Ranganthaswamy, a place sacred to the Hindu religion.

    • Tales of the Rat Fink

    • From the award-winning director of Comic Book Confidential comes Tales of The Rat Fink, Ron Mann's wildly inventive biography about Renaissance man Ed "Big Daddy" Roth, who took America's love of the fast and the loud and took it to the next level. From early days customizing jalopies for his friends, Tales of the Rat Fink traces Big Daddy's Roth rise to fame as a car customizer and as a cartoonist who created the pop culture phenomenon, the Rat Fink (who appears on t-shirts to this day). This documentary provides a loving look at car culture in Southern California from the 50s through today and demonstrates how it is possible for a hobby to blossom into the ultimate fulfillment of a dream.
    • Popaganda

    • A film about the culture-jamming and billboard-liberation antics of Ron English. The modern day Robin Hood of Madison Avenue, Ron paints, perverts, infiltrates, reinvents and satirizes modern culture on canvas, in songs, and directly on hundreds of pirated billboards. Shot entirely guerilla-style, the film chronicles the evolution of an artist who offers an alternative universe where nothing is sacred, everything is subverted and there's always room for a little good-natured fun.

    • Catharsis

    • This entry is a simple documentary of my recent travels on this new journey I find myself on as a single, middle-aged father of two brilliant, beautiful daughters. I hope this and further entries serve as a journal for my girls to better understand their father as he travels down this painful, lonely and devastating path I have been forced to take. I will try to continue adding pieces as I walk alone in this life trying to understand my place in the world and the worth of my art as I express it. I won't apologize for the amateur feel for this piece as I realize now that I am truly an amateur in life. It is nothing to be ashamed about. I hope you all take away something meaningful.
