This painting is slightly political in nature. The American Flag is seen torn and grotesque, overlaid on top of a crying man's face. News articles are found in the background and are to be seen in some areas and nearly hidden in others.
Overall this painting was done at a time when many friends were divided among themselves about how they felt during the beginning of the new millenium, and their thoughts about war, politics, crime, justice, etc.
This painting isn't meant to take one side of any argument versus another, just to show the turmoil within our own nation, trying to fight each other to all move forward as one when "forward" may not be the same direction for some people.
The painting features lyrics from teh song "Youth of the Nation" by P.O.D., and the man's face was loosely based off of a picture of Don Hutson found in an old Nat'l Geographic magazine from the 70s.
